Samir Nasri banned following IV treatment at Los Angeles clinic

London, Feb 26: Former Arsenal and Manchester City midfielder Samir Nasri has been handed a six-month ban by UEFA following the investigation report into the intravenous drip treatment he received at a Los Angeles clinic in 2016.

At first, there were rumours that the ban might be for one year however now the player's lawyer has confirmed it to the Press Association Sport and suggested the player has only received a six-month suspension.

He confirmed it in an email: "Indeed. But he has received only six months suspension."

Nasri reportedly had received 500 millilitres of hydration via sterile water containing micronutrient components and a private medical company called Drip Doctors provided the treatment in Nasri's hotel room while he was on Sevilla in 2016.

But as per World Anti-Doping Agency rules, there is only a 50-millilitre infusion limit per six-hour period for active athletes which Nasri violated.

Sevilla requested retrospective therapeutic use exemption (a TUE) two months later but it was denied then by Uefa before the Court of Arbitration for Sport upheld the decision.

Now as per reports, the investigation has found Nasri to be guilty of improper treatment and now he been handed a six-month suspension.

Nasri’s original punishment was actually set to be a two-year ban, but fortunately for the Frenchman, the Court of Arbitration of Sport decided with a six months stay. UEFA have not confirmed it yet with an official notice but reportedly it will be made public within this week.

Nasri since January has been without a club after he left Turkish team Antalyaspor from Manchester City in January which he joined in this summer only. The player left the side with mutual consent following some financial issue and the Frenchman made himself a free agent.

There were reports that the player is on the verge of signing for La Liga side Las Palmas this month but now if these reports are believed to be true, the player now has to wait for another six months at least to play again.
