Eddie Howe Confirms Sandro Tonali's Return For Newcastle's EFL Cup Match

Eddie Howe has confirmed that Sandro Tonali will be part of Newcastle United's squad for their EFL Cup match against Nottingham Forest. Tonali, who was signed for £55 million from Milan, has been out of action for 10 months due to a ban for breaching betting regulations in Italy. Despite the ban, he has been training with the club.

Howe expressed his confidence in Tonali's readiness, stating, "He will definitely be in the squad, he is fit, he just hasn't had the game time. He has worked incredibly hard to be on top of his fitness." The manager acknowledged that Tonali would likely experience a mix of emotions upon his return.

Howe added, "I imagine a range of emotions, a lot of excitement, when you have a long time out, you have a long time to analyse and reflect. It will be an incredible release for him. I want Sandro to come back and enjoy his football."

In addition to Tonali's return, Howe provided an update on Callum Wilson's fitness. The forward is not expected to return until after the international break due to a back injury. Wilson has also been linked with a potential move away from St James' Park.

"Callum is continuing his rehabilitation from injury; I am happy with his progress," said Howe. "He is working very hard, as he always does. We miss him; he adds a different dynamic. He is such an important character around the squad."
