Eddie Howe Confirms Sandro Tonali's Return For Newcastle's EFL Cup Match

Sandro Tonali is poised to make a comeback in Newcastle United's squad for the EFL Cup clash with Nottingham Forest after a 10-month hiatus due to a betting regulation breach. Eddie Howe confirmed his fitness and readiness for the game.

Eddie Howe has confirmed that Sandro Tonali will be part of Newcastle United's squad for their EFL Cup match against Nottingham Forest. Tonali, who was signed for £55 million from Milan, has been out of action for 10 months due to a ban for breaching betting regulations in Italy. Despite the ban, he has been training with the club.

Howe expressed his confidence in Tonali's readiness, stating, "He will definitely be in the squad, he is fit, he just hasn't had the game time. He has worked incredibly hard to be on top of his fitness." The manager acknowledged that Tonali would likely experience a mix of emotions upon his return.

Tonali Back for EFL Cup

Howe added, "I imagine a range of emotions, a lot of excitement, when you have a long time out, you have a long time to analyse and reflect. It will be an incredible release for him. I want Sandro to come back and enjoy his football."

In addition to Tonali's return, Howe provided an update on Callum Wilson's fitness. The forward is not expected to return until after the international break due to a back injury. Wilson has also been linked with a potential move away from St James' Park.

"Callum is continuing his rehabilitation from injury; I am happy with his progress," said Howe. "He is working very hard, as he always does. We miss him; he adds a different dynamic. He is such an important character around the squad."

Upcoming Match Against Nottingham Forest

Newcastle United are aiming for their third consecutive win at Nottingham Forest's City Ground. They last achieved three wins in a row at this venue in December 1922 (four in a row). This historical context adds an extra layer of anticipation to the upcoming match.

Howe is also looking to strengthen his squad before Friday's transfer deadline. "We hope to get him back soon, but it won't be before the international break," Howe noted regarding Wilson's return.

The upcoming EFL Cup match against Nottingham Forest presents an opportunity for Newcastle United to continue their winning streak and integrate key players like Tonali back into the team.

The manager’s updates on both Tonali and Wilson highlight the club’s ongoing efforts to maintain fitness and performance levels amidst challenges.
