Guardiola Expresses Confidence In Savinho's Future With Manchester City Amid Tottenham Interest

Pep Guardiola is optimistic about Savinho's future at Manchester City despite links to Tottenham. The young Brazilian has shown impressive potential and performance.

Pep Guardiola is optimistic about Savinho's long-term future at Manchester City, despite rumours of a potential move to Tottenham. Savinho joined City for £30.8 million from Troyes before the 2024-25 season after impressing on loan at Girona. In his first season, he played 45 matches, scored twice, and assisted 10 goals.

Guardiola emphasised Savinho's significance to the team, noting his impressive dribbling skills. Only Jeremy Doku surpassed Savinho's 98 completed dribbles for City last season. In the Premier League, only Doku and Aston Villa's Morgan Rogers had more successful dribbles than him. Guardiola stated, "The only thing I'm concerned about today is that Savinho will be with us all season, and hopefully for many, many years."

Guardiola Confident in Savinho's Future

At just 21 years old, Savinho shows immense potential but needs to refine his decision-making in crucial moments. Guardiola acknowledged this by saying, "He has to improve in final decisions. He's an extraordinary player." The manager also highlighted that player desires ultimately determine their future.

Despite his talent, Savinho won't play in City's Premier League opener against Wolves due to injury. Ederson will also miss the match as he nears a transfer to Galatasaray. James Trafford is expected to debut as goalkeeper at Molineux on Saturday.

Ederson has been a key figure since joining City in 2017, making 372 appearances and securing 160 clean sheets while winning 18 trophies. His potential departure adds uncertainty to City's squad dynamics. Guardiola commented on players' futures: "If they want to leave, then they will come to me."

James McAtee seems set for a permanent move to Nottingham Forest due to limited playing time at City. Guardiola expressed understanding of McAtee's desire for more minutes: "I would love to have Macca with me... but we have too many players."

Guardiola values nurturing young talent like Phil Foden but acknowledges the challenge of providing sufficient game time. He said, "I would love to take a lot of academy players... Like Phil [Foden]." Balancing squad depth with player development remains a priority for the manager.

The coming weeks could bring changes as transfer windows close and player decisions unfold. Guardiola remains focused on working with current squad members while respecting their choices regarding future moves.
