Borussia Dortmund's injury woes have deepened with Nico Schlotterbeck's recent setback. The defender injured his ankle during their 3-2 Champions League loss to Barcelona. This comes shortly after head coach Nuri Sahin announced Niklas Sule's long-term absence, with Waldemar Anton also unavailable. Schlotterbeck was hurt while attempting a late equaliser and had to be stretchered off the field.
Sahin expressed his concern over Schlotterbeck's injury, describing it as potentially disastrous for the team. "It would be a complete disaster if he was also sidelined," Sahin stated. "I don't have a diagnosis yet but obviously he is completely dejected. I saw the images and they are horrible. We will have a sleepless night tonight and then we will have to see how it develops tomorrow."

Dortmund has faced significant challenges this season due to injuries, affecting up to 10 players at various times. These setbacks have impacted their performance, leaving them sixth in the Bundesliga, trailing leaders Bayern Munich by 12 points. In the Champions League, their defeat to Barcelona dropped them to ninth place, just outside automatic qualification for the last 16.
The team's struggles on the field have left Sahin frustrated despite their efforts against top teams. "I am fuming because we played well," said Sahin. "We have to win these games. We deserved more in the second half." He emphasised that playing well isn't enough; they need victories to progress.
With key players like Schlotterbeck and Sule sidelined, Dortmund faces an uphill battle in both domestic and European competitions. The team must adapt quickly and find ways to secure wins despite their depleted squad. Sahin highlighted the need for development and learning from mistakes to achieve success.
Sahin's determination is clear as he aims for Dortmund not only to compete but also to secure victories against top-tier teams. His focus remains on improving performance and ensuring that future matches result in wins rather than just commendable performances.
