Scholes explains the reason Paul Pogba left Old Trafford in 2012

London, Feb 19: Paul Scholes in a candid revelation has suggested that Paul Pogba's infamous departure from Old Trafford to Juventus was mostly because of Sir Alex Ferguson's team selection.

Pogba was a budding youngster in 2011 and was already gaining a lot of applause for his display in the academy. The player made debut in that very season, however, saw very limited chances coming to his way.

For more game time the player left the club as an 18-year-old in a free transfer to Turin in 2012 but came to his former club last year as a record signing.

During Pogba's time at the club, Scholes made a comeback to football and many people make the allegation that Scholes's coming back to football from retirement urged the Frenchman to move from the side.

However, as per Scholes's opinion, the player was triggered by Alex Ferguson's decision to play Phil Jones and Fabio ahead of Paul Pogba in the first-team in a Premier League match against Blackburn which United lost 3-2 and the irritated player afterwards rejected a new contract offer from the club to jump the ship from England to Italy when an offer came by.

Scholes also added that it was never his intention to come back to football again after hanging up his boots, however, a proposal from Ferguson and seeing team's midfield injury issues he decided to come back.

Scholes explained: 'He [Ferguson] originally wanted me to come back to coach the reserve team with Warren Joyce.

"I said, in September I’ll come back… so I had three or four months with the family, had some nice holidays.

"I started helping Joycey and started training with him – training with the likes of Pogba, [Jesse] Lingard… they were a really good side.

"I just thought, I’m loving training, I was getting fit and felt great. It got to December-time, the team was struggling, had a load of injuries.

"They had no central midfield players, really. They ended up playing Phil Jones and Fabio against Blackburn at Old Trafford and really struggled.

"That was the end of Pogba, I think. He thought he should have been playing that night instead of those two.

"But he was playing in the reserve team and wasn’t doing very well, so he didn’t really warrant that.

"So I went to Joycey and said, 'I’m thinking of coming back'."

Scholes reannounced retirement just after one year at the club in 2012-13 whereas in the following four years at Turin Pogba established himself as one of World's best midfielders before making a return to Old Trafford last year for a record-breaking £89m.
