Pedro Martinez Losa has stepped down as the head coach of Scotland's women's national team. This decision follows the team's failure to qualify for Euro 2025. Scotland was defeated by Finland, losing 2-0 on aggregate in the play-offs this month. They also missed out on the 2023 World Cup through the play-offs. Martinez Losa had been in charge since July 2021, with a contract extending to 2027.
The last time Scotland's women reached a major tournament was at the 2019 World Cup in France under Shelley Kerr. Despite recent challenges, Martinez Losa expressed pride in his team's journey. "I am immensely proud of the journey we have undertaken as a group, and it has been a privilege to lead the Scotland women's national team," he stated on the SFA website.

Reflecting on his time with the team, Martinez Losa highlighted watching young talent grow alongside seasoned players as a significant achievement. He shared fond memories and gratitude towards his squad, backroom staff, and loyal supporters. "Scotland will always hold a special place in my heart and I wish the team every success in the future," he added.
The Scottish FA board believes a change is necessary before upcoming matches against Austria, Germany, and Netherlands. They are also preparing for the 2027 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. The recruitment process for a new head coach will start immediately to replace Martinez Losa.
Ian Maxwell, chief executive of the Scottish FA, expressed gratitude for Martinez Losa's contributions over three and a half years. "I would like to thank Pedro for his efforts over the past three and a half years," Maxwell said. He acknowledged their recent unbeaten run and promotion from Nations League Group B but emphasised that qualifying for major tournaments remains their primary goal.
As Scotland looks forward to future competitions, they aim to build on recent performances while striving for qualification success in upcoming tournaments.
