Everton Manager Sean Dyche Speaks On Dominic Calvert-Lewin's Potential Exit

Everton boss Sean Dyche has not dismissed the potential departure of Dominic Calvert-Lewin amid financial strains and his nearing contract end. Despite being a key player, the club's situation might force a move.

Everton manager Sean Dyche has not dismissed the possibility of Dominic Calvert-Lewin leaving before the season ends. Calvert-Lewin played 39 matches in all competitions for Everton last year, compared to 38 across the previous two seasons combined.

The 27-year-old striker netted seven goals in the Premier League last season, sharing the top scorer spot at the club with Abdoulaye Doucoure. Despite his contributions, Calvert-Lewin has been linked with a transfer away from Goodison Park. A potential move to Newcastle fell through in July, but Manchester United and West Ham have also shown interest. His current contract with Everton has just one year remaining.

Dyche Talks Calvert-Lewin Future

Everton's financial troubles, which led to an eight-point deduction last season due to breaches of Profitability and Sustainability Rules, mean they cannot afford to lose him without compensation. When asked about a possible offer for Calvert-Lewin, Dyche commented: "That would be the challenge for the club - for any player, not just Dom."

Dyche elaborated on the club's financial situation: "You saw Amadou (Onana) leaving us. There was a level where they think: 'Right that's it, it's got to be done'. That is the current situation of the club." He emphasised that decisions are made based on a broader financial picture beyond his control.

Everton start their Premier League campaign against Brighton on Saturday. Dyche hopes Calvert-Lewin will continue his scoring form against Brighton. The striker has scored three times in 13 appearances against them, with higher tallies only against Burnley (four), Crystal Palace (five), and Newcastle (six).

Dyche acknowledged the need for better financial balance: "They do need to balance the finances better. We have done a lot of work with that since I've been here." This highlights ongoing efforts to stabilise Everton's economic situation while maintaining competitive performance.

As Everton prepares for their upcoming match, Dyche remains focused on leveraging Calvert-Lewin's abilities while navigating potential transfer challenges. The club's financial constraints necessitate careful consideration of any offers that may come in for key players like Calvert-Lewin.

The situation underscores the delicate balance between maintaining squad strength and addressing financial imperatives at Everton. Dyche's comments reflect a pragmatic approach to managing these competing priorities as they head into another demanding Premier League season.
