Sean Longstaff has expressed his excitement about joining Leeds United, marking a significant move from Newcastle United. The midfielder, who started his career at St James' Park in 2006 and played over 200 matches for the first team, has signed a four-year contract with Leeds. Reports indicate that Leeds paid more than £12 million for the 27-year-old.
Longstaff shared his thoughts with LUTV after signing, saying, "I think from the first time I spoke to Leeds, I got a feeling that they really wanted me. It just fills you full of confidence and it just makes you want to repay those people. It is a massive, massive football club - similar to Newcastle in a lot of ways."

Leaving Newcastle was not an easy decision for Longstaff. He stated that it required the right opportunity for him and his family to make such a move. The atmosphere at Leeds impressed him during past visits as an opponent, making it an appealing destination.
Last season, Longstaff mostly came off the bench, playing only 787 minutes in the Premier League. Despite limited playtime under Eddie Howe, he witnessed Newcastle's EFL Cup victory over Liverpool from the sidelines after contributing five appearances in earlier rounds.
Leeds United has been active in the transfer market following their promotion to the Premier League by winning the Championship last season. Alongside Longstaff, they have secured four other players: Sebastiaan Bornau, Lukas Nmecha, Jaka Bijol, and Gabriel Gudmundsson.
Longstaff is eager to experience Elland Road's vibrant atmosphere as part of the home team rather than facing it as an opponent. His enthusiasm reflects his belief that Leeds is an ideal fit for him both professionally and personally.
The midfielder's transition signifies a fresh chapter in his career as he aims to contribute significantly to Leeds' ambitions in the Premier League. His arrival adds depth and experience to their squad as they prepare for top-flight challenges ahead.
