Senegal President announces Lavish Cash and Ocean view Plots for Sadio Mane and Co. after AFCON Victory

Senegal's President Bassirou Diomaye Faye has announced lavish rewards for the national football team after their historic Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) victory.

The Lions de la Teranga clinched their second AFCON title on January 18, 2026, defeating hosts Morocco 2-1 in a thrilling final at the Ibn Battouta Stadium in Tangier. Nicolas Jackson's brace secured the win, capping a dominant tournament run that included victories over heavyweights like Egypt and Nigeria.

Speaking at a press conference during the team's triumphant trophy parade in Dakar, President Faye outlined generous bonuses and land gifts for players, officials, and support staff. The rewards celebrate Senegal's first AFCON title since 2021 and their resilience after reaching the final as underdogs.

"I would like to take this opportunity to inform the Senegalese people that, in my own name, I have offered each client present here 75 million (CFA francs) and 1,500 square meters of land on the Petite Cote," Faye said at a news conference.

"To the members of the Federation, 1,000 square metre and 50 million ($89,000; £67,000). To the other members of the delegation, 500 square meters and 20 million ($36,000; £27,000), also on the Petite Cote. To the Ministry of Sports, 305 million ($540,000; £470,000) for bonuses for all ministry staff, and land for the members of the ministerial delegation who accompanied the team to Morocco," he said.

The players and staff will get their plots at the Petite Cote stretch at the Mbour area, which lies on the West Coast of the country. All the plots are supposed to be adjacent to the sea, which is the Atlantic Ocean.
