Manchester United's manager, Ruben Amorim, attributed his first Premier League loss to their struggles with set-pieces. United fell 2-0 to Arsenal after a goalless first half. Arsenal capitalised on corner routines, nearly adding a third goal through Mikel Merino. United missed their own set-piece opportunities, including a Matthijs de Ligt header saved by David Raya.
Amorim highlighted the impact of set-pieces on the match outcome. "The set-pieces changed the game," he stated to BBC Match of the Day. He noted that before the set-pieces, there were limited chances for both teams. Amorim acknowledged Arsenal's ability to crowd the goalkeeper area, making it difficult to defend effectively.

De Ligt echoed his manager's sentiments, pointing out their defensive performance was solid apart from the goals conceded. "In the defensive phase, the amount of chances we conceded without the set-plays [was good]," he told MUTV. Despite some late offensive play leading to more chances for Arsenal, De Ligt believes they will improve offensively.
This match marked Amorim's fourth game in charge across all competitions for Manchester United. De Ligt understands that adjustments take time and is confident improvements will come as they adapt to Amorim's system. He mentioned that while their current approach isn't perfect yet, progress is visible.
Amorim expressed that if Matthijs had scored during their key moment, it could have shifted momentum in their favour. He felt his players controlled much of the game until those decisive set-pieces in the second half altered its course.
Despite this setback, De Ligt remains optimistic about future improvements under Amorim's guidance. He emphasised that understanding each player's role better could have allowed them to exploit Arsenal more effectively.
As Manchester United continues adapting to new strategies under Amorim, both players and management recognise areas needing enhancement. The team remains focused on refining their approach and building upon early signs of progress seen in recent matches.
