The encounter between Sevilla FC and Real Madrid on Saturday (October 21) in La Liga holds great significance for center-back Sergio Ramos.
Sergio Ramos is preparing to play against Real Madrid, his former side, for the first time since his departure from the Spanish capital in 2021. His kit will bear the emblem of Sevilla FC, the first team he ever played for in the La Liga league almost 20 years ago, in 2004.

Ramos was originally from Seville and took his opening strides in football when he signed up for his local team Camas CF. He later pivoted to the Sevilla FC academy. Together with his fellow trainees, the existing Los Nervionenses skipper Jesús Navas and the late Antonio Puerta, Ramos gradually secured his position in the playing eleven.
Transferring to Real Madrid at just 19, Ramos adopted the renowned No.4 jersey previously worn by Fernando Hierro with gusto.
Ramos understands the significance of his defensive role and the legacy of his jersey number at Real Madrid, club president Florentino Pérez acknowledged at Ramos' official unveiling. He further expressed confidence in Ramos' capacity to fulfill the spectators' expectations of entertainment and defense excellence. Over time, Ramos lived up to these expectations and earned legendary status.
At the Estadio Santiago Bernabéu, he won an impressive 22 titles, broke numerous records, and became the club's fourth most capped player. Ramos made 671 appearances for Los Blancos, scoring a staggering 101 goals in those, a stellar record for a centre-back.
Ramos bid goodbye to Real Madrid in 2021 and joined Paris Saint-Germain. Owing to an injury, he was unable to play against his former team in PSG's Champions League's round of 16 matches. As a result, his interactions with Real Madrid were limited to the two instances in the 2004/05 season when he represented Sevilla FC, acquiring a 1-0 victory at the Bernabéu and securing a 2-2 home draw.
His return to Estadio Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán this summer following a two-year stint in Paris marks an emotional moment for him. He has been part of 35 official matches between Sevilla FC and Real Madrid throughout his career, contributing eight goals. The upcoming match signifies his first appearance in this fixture as a Los Nervionenses player since 2005, and carries a sentimental value not only for Ramos and his family, but also the supporters of Real Madrid.
The prodigal son of Los Blancos, one of football's greatest defenders in their glorious history, will now play against them, making the match an unforgettable occasion.
