Shakhtar Donetsk CEO Sergey Palkin has high hopes for Giorgi Sudakov, predicting a bright future if he continues to excel in the Champions League. The 22-year-old midfielder is seen as one of Europe's emerging talents, having played a crucial role in Shakhtar's Ukrainian Premier League victories over the past two seasons.
Sudakov also made a significant impact during Ukraine's Euro 2024 campaign. Despite Ukraine's group stage exit, he created the third-most chances (four) and had the most shots (nine), although he did not score. His performances have caught the attention of many in the football world.

Palkin shared his thoughts at the Thinking Football Summit organised by Liga Portugal. He stated, "Everybody knows about Sudakov. I believe he is the new European star." This sentiment underscores the high expectations placed on Sudakov as he prepares for Shakhtar's upcoming Champions League match against Bologna on Wednesday.
Palkin revealed that Napoli had shown interest in Sudakov six months ago, offering €40 million for him. However, Shakhtar believes his value is much higher. "We believe that in this Champions League, he will show his best," Palkin said. "Because he has the dream to play in a top-ranked European club."
The CEO is confident that if Sudakov performs well, it will pave the way for him to join a prestigious European team. "If he shows good football, I believe he will jump to this club," Palkin added.
As Shakhtar gears up for their Champions League opener against Bologna, all eyes will be on Sudakov to see if he can live up to these lofty expectations and further solidify his reputation as one of Europe's rising stars.
