Sheffield United Celebrates Best Point Of Season After Resilient Draw Against West Brom

In a challenging match, Sheffield United secured a vital point against West Brom, demonstrating resilience and character. Chris Wilder praised his team's performance as their best of the season despite dropping points after leading.

Sheffield United's manager, Chris Wilder, praised his team's resilience after they secured a draw against West Brom. This result pushed them back to the top of the Championship table. Tom Fellows scored an equaliser for West Brom, resulting in a 2-2 draw at the Hawthorns. The Baggies have now drawn 10 of their last 11 league matches.

The Blades moved one point ahead of Leeds United, who had won against Derby County. Despite dropping points after leading 2-1, Wilder commended his players for their determination against last season's play-off contenders. "We were up against a really good team," Wilder stated. "We showed great character to overturn a lead the way we did."

Sheffield United's Resilient Draw at West Brom

Wilder expressed satisfaction with the outcome, describing it as their toughest-earned point this season. He emphasised the importance of securing something from the match, acknowledging that it would have been easy to accept defeat. "But they didn't," he added, highlighting his team's perseverance.

Wilder noted that at one point, six 22-year-olds were on the field for Sheffield United. They faced challenging conditions but managed to fight back and secure a result. "This side is learning on the job," he remarked, praising their ability to adapt and perform under pressure.

Match Highlights

The match saw West Brom take an early lead in the 24th minute through Torbjorn Heggem's header from Alex Mowatt's corner. However, Callum O'Hare and Tyrese Campbell quickly turned things around for Sheffield United with two goals before halftime. Harrison Burrows played a crucial role in both goals.

After halftime, Fellows' cross deflected off Gustavo Hamer and looped over Michael Cooper into the net for West Brom's equaliser. The game was closely contested, with Sheffield United slightly edging out West Brom in expected goals (xG), recording 1.05 compared to West Brom's 0.73 from their respective shots.

This hard-fought draw demonstrated Sheffield United's ability to compete at a high level despite challenging circumstances and youthful squad members gaining valuable experience.
