Wadjied Ryngkhlem’s early goal ensured Shillong Lajong secured all three points in their opening Group F match of the Durand Cup 2024 at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium. The Red Dragons celebrated their return to the stadium since 2018 in style.
Shillong Lajong Head Coach Jose Hevia opted for a 4-3-3 formation, featuring Brazilian Marcos Rudwere Silva as the forward. Tribhuvan Army FC Head Coach K.C Meghraj fielded a seasoned starting eleven with Nepal international Bharat Khawas as captain.

Shillong Lajong took the lead in the sixth minute despite an aggressive start from the Nepal side. Ryngkhlem’s precise shot navigated through defenders and past the diving goalkeeper.
Both teams maintained a fast pace, but Shillong created more opportunities. However, composure was lacking, with Hardy Cliff Nongbri, Everbrighton Sana, and Marcos Rudwere Silva missing scoring chances.
Tribhuvan Army relied on counterattacks and had chances to equalize, the best coming just before halftime when Basant Jimba missed a clear opportunity. In the second half, Shillong continued to attack but struggled to find a second goal due to poor finishing.
Tribhuvan goalkeeper Bikesh Kuthu made several key saves, while Shillong goalkeeper Manas Dubey denied Jimba’s close-range header to preserve the lead. Shillong Lajong comfortably managed the rest of the game to celebrate their return to Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium with a victory.
