In one of the vacation pictures posted on Instagram captioned: 'Vacation mood’, Cristiano Ronaldo has seen his toenails painted black which caused a bit of a stir on social media.

It had some fans in the comments questioning the five-time Ballon d'Or winner why he had painted his toenails in black varnish.

In general, the audience may be in puzzle why the Portuguese superstar would do that. However, it’s not for fashion but rather for health reasons. There is actually a scientific reason behind the choice.

Painting your toenails as a professional athlete is said to help prevent infections and other terrible foot-related problems.

It is also said to help athletes in preventing their toenails from breaking or splitting by hardening the nails with a layer of polish.
