SKF India Felicitates Special Olympics Bharat Contingent After Inspiring Gothia Cup 2026 Campaign

New Delhi, July 20: Fresh off their successful campaign at the Gothia Cup 2026 in Sweden, the Special Olympics Bharat football contingent capped off a successful campaign against top European nations. To honour their victorious run at the Gothia Cup 2026, SKF India Ltd. felicitated the young footballers.

The felicitation ceremony, held at The Lalit, brought together athletes, coaches, officials, partners and dignitaries to recognise the contingent's achievement and India's growing presence in international inclusive sports.

The bronze medal marked another significant milestone for Special Olympics Bharat, reinforcing the team's consistency on the global stage and highlighting the determination and resilience of its athletes.

Speaking at the event, SKF India Managing Director Shailesh Sharma congratulated the team on its success and reiterated the company's commitment to inclusive sports.

"We are immensely proud of the Special Olympics Bharat Boys' Football Team for bringing home the Bronze Medal at the Gothia Cup 2026. Their achievement is a testament to the power of perseverance, discipline and teamwork," Sharma said.

He added that SKF India believes sport can transform lives, promote inclusion and unlock human potential, and remains committed to creating equal opportunities for athletes to compete and excel internationally.

Special Olympics Bharat President Dr. Mallika Nanda described the bronze medal as a symbol of much more than sporting success.

"This bronze medal is far more than a podium finish; it is a testament to the resilience, determination and indomitable spirit of our athletes," she said.

Nanda noted that the result reflected the programme's consistency in international competitions, adding that winning three consecutive international trophies at the Gothia Cup showcased the strength of India's inclusive football movement. She also thanked Ambassador of Sweden to India Jan Thesleff and SKF India for their continued support in helping athletes compete on the global stage.

Men's head coach Onaciss credited the players' commitment throughout the campaign.

"Every medal has a story, and ours is one of resilience, trust and relentless belief. This team proved that true champions are defined not only by victories, but by the courage to rise stronger after every challenge," he said.

The coach added that months of discipline, sacrifice and teamwork culminated in the Gothia Cup bronze, while expressing gratitude to Special Olympics Bharat and SKF India for creating opportunities for athletes with intellectual disabilities to compete with confidence.

The event also featured interactions with players and coaches, who reflected on their experiences in Sweden, followed by a felicitation ceremony honouring athletes, coaches, support staff and partner organisations.

SKF India said its long-standing partnership with Special Olympics Bharat is aimed at promoting inclusion through sport and building an ecosystem where specially abled athletes are empowered to realise their potential while proudly representing India on the international stage.
