Slot Optimistic About Liverpool's Line-Up Despite Missing Zubimendi

Arne Slot expresses confidence in his Liverpool squad ahead of the Premier League season, despite not securing midfielder Martin Zubimendi. Slot praises the team's strength and looks forward to the campaign with the current roster.

Arne Slot is optimistic about his Liverpool squad as they prepare for their Premier League opener against Ipswich. Despite not securing midfielder Martin Zubimendi, Slot remains confident in the team's strength. Liverpool has yet to sign any new players this transfer window, but Slot believes the current squad can deliver.

Liverpool showed interest in Real Sociedad's Zubimendi after his impressive performances for Spain at Euro 2024. The club was ready to trigger his £51m release clause, but Zubimendi chose to stay with La Real for the upcoming season. Last season, he completed 1,318 successful passes in La Liga, only surpassed by Igor Zubeldia (1,475) and Robin Le Normand (1,562) within the Sociedad squad.

Slot Upbeat on Liverpool Squad

Comparatively, only Alexis Mac Allister from Liverpool's current midfield options completed more passes than Zubimendi last season, with 1,692 passes. Despite missing out on Zubimendi, Slot is confident in the squad built under Jurgen Klopp's tenure. "I've said many times already that our squad is really strong and it's not so easy to find players who can help us or improve the squad," Slot stated.

Another key discussion point is Trent Alexander-Arnold's position under Slot this season. Alexander-Arnold played in midfield for England at Euro 2024 but was substituted in both Group C games. In the 1-1 draw against Denmark, he created more chances (three) and made more line-breaking passes in the final third (five) than any other player before being substituted in the 54th minute.

Slot believes Alexander-Arnold can be an asset regardless of his position. "A position for a player is always related to the team. The first aim is to bring the best out of the team," Slot explained. He added that while Alexander-Arnold is known as a right full-back, he has also played in midfield effectively and can contribute significantly in either role.

Slot acknowledged that Richard is working hard to strengthen the squad despite missing out on Zubimendi. "We did every effort. If a player decides not to come then it's obvious he's not coming," he remarked. Slot remains positive about Liverpool's prospects as they head into their Premier League campaign.

The Reds' Premier League campaign kicks off tomorrow at Portman Road against Ipswich. Fans are eager to see how Slot will utilise his existing squad and whether any new signings will be made before the transfer window closes.

"Endo did well in pre-season. We're in a good place," Slot noted, expressing satisfaction with the team's preparation and readiness for the new season.
