Arne Slot has been commended for his humility in succeeding Jurgen Klopp as Liverpool's manager, according to Danny Mills. Since taking over from Klopp before the 2024-25 season, Slot has had a remarkable start at Anfield. Accumulating 28 points in his first 11 Premier League matches, he matches Guus Hiddink's record at Chelsea. Liverpool's only setback was a 1-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest in September.

Slot's approach has impressed former Leeds United and Manchester City defender Danny Mills. "Arne Slot has surprised me," Mills told Stats Perform. Despite the unexpected loss to Nottingham Forest, Slot's start is "unbelievable." The team maintains high energy, pressing opponents and playing aggressively when regaining possession. This reflects Slot's understanding of the players' strengths without overhauling Klopp's successful system.

Liverpool achieved significant success under Klopp, winning their first Premier League title and the Champions League in 2018-19. Klopp also secured the FA Cup, two EFL Cups, the UEFA Super Cup, and FIFA Club World Cup during his tenure. These accomplishments set a high standard for Slot to follow.

Liverpool have conceded just six goals this season, four fewer than Nottingham Forest, who are next best. They are allowing about 0.5 goals per game compared to around 1.1 in Klopp’s last season (41 goals in 38 matches). "Slot has tweaked things slightly," Mills noted, enhancing their defensive solidity which is crucial for championship-winning teams.

Mills praised Slot for recognising the quality within Liverpool’s squad and not making unnecessary changes. "Liverpool identified the man they wanted," Mills added. Slot assessed the squad and realised major changes weren't needed due to their previous success under Klopp.

Slot’s ability to build on existing strengths without drastic changes highlights his managerial acumen. By maintaining a solid defence and allowing players to perform as they did under Klopp, Slot ensures continuity while subtly enhancing their playstyle.
