Soccer legend Pele not to visit India

Kolkata, Jan 16: Brazilian soccer legend Pele will not visit India as the exhibition match between the Superstar XI and Indian Dream XI has been indefinitely postponed. The match was scheduled to be played at the Salt Lake Stadium, Kolkata on Jan 23, where Pele was expected to be present as the ambassador of the Superstars XI.

The organisers in a statement said, "We regret to announce, due to unavoidable circumstances the match originally scheduled for Jan 23, 2012 in Kolkata, India has been postponed to a later date. The new date will be informed to you in the next week."

Sources also said that veteran footballers Pele, Cafu and former French international Robert Pires have not yet been contracted at all for the match.

The event promoters had earlier claimed that the team will feature Brazil's two-time World Cup winner Cafu and will have legends like Roberto Carlos, Zola, Denilson, Ronald De Boer and others.
