Son Heung-min Aims For Legendary Status At Tottenham Through Trophy Win

Son Heung-min, Tottenham's forward, believes winning a trophy is essential for achieving legendary status at the club. Despite scoring 162 goals since joining in 2015, Son emphasizes the importance of lifting silverware to leave a lasting legacy.

Son Heung-min believes he needs to secure a trophy with Tottenham Hotspur to be considered a legend at the club. Since joining from Bayer Leverkusen in August 2015, the South Korean has scored 162 goals in 409 appearances. Despite his impressive record, both he and the club have yet to win any silverware.

The closest they came were runners-up finishes in the 2018-19 Champions League and the 2020-21 EFL Cup. Son remains hopeful that he can lift a trophy before his time at Spurs ends, leaving a lasting legacy. He told BBC Sport: "I don't think I'm a legend of this club. As I've said, I want to win something with Spurs, then I will be happy to be called [a] legend. This is one thing I want to do. I joined Spurs to win a trophy so I hope we can make it special for this season."

Son's Quest for Spurs Legend Status

In Ange Postecoglou's first season, Son primarily led the line but is open to returning to his wide left role for the 2024-25 season to accommodate new striker Dominic Solanke. He stated: "It's the gaffer's choice. I will do anything for him. I think I already said if you put me as the keeper, I would be a keeper."

Son elaborated on his adaptability by saying: "You're facing different teams in the Premier League; some are sitting back, and it can be really tough for me to even get a shot off. I like to prepare on the left side to create something and in one-on-one situations, something which I think I'm really strong at, but in an open game I don't mind staying in the middle."

Since Hugo Lloris' departure, Son has been captaining Tottenham for over a year and has embraced this added responsibility. Reflecting on his captaincy experience, he shared: "It's been good. We were learning a lot of things last year. Being a captain of a Premier League team takes a lot of responsibility; it's hard dealing with young players, it's like school! But it's a joy and I'm still learning—it's not easy but it's a good thing to do."

Son's commitment and versatility have made him an invaluable asset for Tottenham Hotspur. His determination to win silverware reflects his dedication to achieving legendary status at the club.

As Son continues his journey with Tottenham Hotspur, fans eagerly await whether he can lead them to long-awaited glory.
