Sonia Bompastor Extends Chelsea Contract Through 2030 After Unbeaten 2024-25 Season

Chelsea have confirmed that head coach Sonia Bompastor has signed a new deal running until 2030, underlining long-term faith in the former Lyon boss after an unbeaten domestic treble in 2024-25 and sustained success in the Womens Super League.

Bompastor arrived before the 2024-25 campaign and immediately delivered three domestic trophies without a single defeat. That debut season included a perfect league run in terms of avoiding losses and set several Womens Super League benchmarks for Chelsea.

Across the 2024-25 WSL season, Bompastor oversaw 19 wins and three draws. Chelsea became the first English womens team since 2000-01 to finish a domestic league season unbeaten and also posted a record WSL points total of 60.

Looking at Bompastor’s full WSL spell, Chelsea have won 27 of 36 matches, with six draws and three defeats. The team scored 81 league goals in that time and averaged 2.4 points per game, a figure bettered only by Manchester City boss Andree Jeglertz, who averages 2.79 points.

This season has been more difficult in the league, highlighted by a 5-1 defeat at Manchester City which left Chelsea 12 points behind their title rivals. However, Bompastor’s side have reached the League Cup final, maintaining a chance of domestic silverware.

After that heavy loss at City, Bompastor stated that departure would be an option if supporters no longer believed Bompastor was the right appointment. Instead, Chelsea have moved to secure continuity with a contract running through the next four years.

"I am delighted to extend my stay here," Bompastor told the Chelsea website.

"I want to thank the club for their unwavering support and the trust they have shown in me. Its a privilege to lead this team and I could not be prouder to represent Chelsea. Our fans have made me feel at home since the day I arrived, and I am grateful for the many special moments we have shared together so far. Lifting the WSL trophy at Stamford Bridge and FA Cup at Wembley with our supporters are memories I will never forget."

The new agreement confirms Chelsea’s commitment to Bompastor despite short-term league setbacks, reflecting the value placed on the unbeaten treble, strong statistical record in the WSL and clear support from fans that Bompastor highlighted when discussing the extended contract.
