Pune’s Football Scene Heats Up with the Arrival of South United Football Academy

South United Football Club has expanded its horizon with the launch of the South United Football Academy (SUFA) in Pune, aiming to sculpt the next generation of football talent. With training centers in Bavdhan, Kharadi, and Undri, SUFA offers tailored programs for youths, from toddlers to teenagers, and provides opportunities for talented players through its Elite Youth Teams. Under the guidance of seasoned professionals, SUFA is set to elevate Pune's football infrastructure and contribute to the growth of Indian football.

In a significant move to foster young football talent, Bengaluru's South United Football Club (SUFC) has broadened its horizon by launching the South United Football Academy (SUFA) in Pune.

This expansion introduces three new training hubs located in Bavdhan, Kharadi, and Undri, aiming to sculpt the next generation of footballers. The initiative underscores SUFC's dedication to nurturing talent from the grassroots level, offering a structured pathway for children as young as three years old to embark on their football journey.

The academy is rolling out three distinct programs catered to different age groups and skill levels. The Toddler Development Program targets children aged 3-5 years, focusing on introducing them to the sport in a fun and engaging manner. The Youth Development Program is designed for those aged 5-18 years, aiming to hone their skills and understanding of the game.

For the exceptionally talented, the Elite Youth Teams provide an opportunity for under 13, under 15, and under 17 athletes to receive specialised training and scholarships, offering a direct path to the senior team. Trials for the Elite program will soon commence at the Bavdhan center to scout for promising talent.

The leadership team, including director Sharan Parikh and sporting director Terence (Terry) Phelan, highlighted SUFA's commitment to delivering international coaching standards and enhancing Pune's football infrastructure.

Parikh emphasized the holistic development approach for each child, while Phelan expressed enthusiasm about tapping into Pune's rich talent pool and passion for football. The academy's expansion plans include opening a football hub in Solapur and initiating a Baby League in Pune to further its reach.

SUFA has collaborated with Pune-based Ileseum Clubs to set up its centers in Bavdhan, Undri, and Kharadi, equipped with state-of-the-art facilities including 11-a-side pitches in Bavdhan and Kharadi, and a 7-a-side pitch in Undri.

The Elite Programme is set to award scholarships to selected talents from Pune starting in June, reinforcing SUFC's mission to contribute to the growth of Indian football and presenting the youth with opportunities to pursue a professional career in the sport.

The announcement was marked by a media outreach event attended by the SUFC leadership team, culminating in a penalty shoot-out challenge for the media personnel present. This gesture symbolises the academy's interactive approach and its dedication to making football an accessible and enjoyable sport for all. Through initiatives like SUFA, SUFC continues to play a pivotal role in the development of football in India, fostering a robust ecosystem for the sport.
