Sam Morsy's Stunning Stoppage-Time Goal Earns Ipswich A Draw Against Southampton

In a thrilling match at St Mary's, Sam Morsy's late equaliser salvaged a point for Ipswich Town against Southampton. Both teams remain winless in the Premier League this season.

Sam Morsy's dramatic goal in stoppage time secured a draw for Ipswich Town against Southampton, ending the match 1-1 at St Mary's. Both teams, having been promoted from the Championship last season, were eager for their first win of the 2024/25 season. The game was intense from the start.

Teenager Tyler Dibling gave Southampton an early lead with a composed finish after receiving a pass from Adam Lallana. As Russell Martin's team seemed poised for victory, Morsy intervened five minutes into stoppage time with a 20-yard volley that deflected off Jan Bednarek into the top-left corner.

Morsy's Late Goal Secures Draw for Ipswich

All three of Ipswich's Premier League goals this season have been scored from outside the box. Morsy's late equaliser followed this trend, making Ipswich the fifth team in Premier League history to have their first three goals of a campaign come from long range. Previous teams include Aston Villa (1993-94) and Arsenal (2002-03).

The result leaves both teams still searching for their first victories of the season. Southampton sits in 18th place with one point, while Ipswich is slightly better off in 16th with two points. Despite their efforts, Ipswich has not won a Premier League match since 2002.

Southampton's winless streak in the Premier League continues, now extending to 18 matches since their last victory against Leicester in March 2023. Both teams will be looking to break these streaks as they continue their campaigns.
