New Delhi, Aug 4: Southampton manager Mauricio Pellegrino has affirmed that Liverpool transfer target Virgil van Dijk has no desire of playing for Southampton once more, however, the manager commanded that the defender won't be sold this Summer.
Van Dijk has been continuously linked with a transfer from Southampton this Summer following a remarkable performance in the last couple of years in England.
The Merseyside even reportedly made a world record bid the defender which is believed to be near about £60m however later the St. Mary side threatened to report them to the Football Association after they accused them of tapping the player.
Jurgen Klopp's side were then compelled to apologize and put a conclusion to their interest of Van Dijk's to end the matter.
But the defender remains intent on moving to Anfield and even told the Sotton boss candidly that he wanted to leave. In which the club left him isolated in their pre-season campaign to train alone.
But now in a recent interview, manager Pellegrino has expressed that his side's position over the defender's valuation had not changed and the 26-year-old would not be sold. Pellegrino also insisted he hopes to resolve the issue quickly and will speak to the player in order to try to change his mind.
"The situation is the same. I can't say no more, because the situation is the boy is aside of the team because he doesn't want to play for us," the Southampton manager said after his side's 4-0 home defeat to Augsburg.
"I would like to bring the boy and to persuade him that he's important for us and the club will not sell him. We are expecting the best for everyone, even for Virgil, but he doesn't want to be part of the team."
Now it remains to be seen where the situation finally ends however it is sure that Pellegrino will be hoping to keep hold of club's best player beyond this month and have him available for the season ahead.
