Southampton have finalised the £15 million acquisition of striker Cameron Archer from Aston Villa. Archer had initially moved to Sheffield United last year, where he made 29 Premier League appearances and scored four goals, despite the team finishing at the bottom of the league.
Villa retained a buy-back clause on the 22-year-old, which they activated in June. He participated in pre-season matches but faced stiff competition from Ollie Watkins, Jhon Duran, Leon Bailey, and Morgan Rogers for a spot in the attack.

Given the limited opportunities for regular playtime at Villa, Archer has now secured a move to newly promoted Southampton. He has signed a four-year contract with Russell Martin's team.
The Saints will kick off their Premier League campaign with an away match against Newcastle United on Saturday. Archer expressed his excitement about joining Southampton, particularly praising Martin's style of play.
"That was one of the main reasons why I'm here, his playing style, his coaching and him trying to improve me as a player," Archer said on the club's website. "I just want to keep scoring goals and improve myself as a player, and I don't think there's a better place to do that than Southampton."
Archer is eager to make an impact at his new club and believes that Southampton offers the perfect environment for his development as a player.
