Spain Coach Denia Eyes Olympic Gold To Highlight Dominant Year In Football

Santi Denia sets sights on Olympic gold for Spain against France, aiming to cap off a successful year with European Championship victories. Spain's historic pursuit of gold underlines their football excellence.

Santi Denia sees Friday's Olympic gold medal match against France as a chance for Spain to prove their dominance in European football. Spain's senior and under-19 teams both won European Championship titles last month, capping off a successful 2024. These victories followed Luis de la Fuente leading the senior team to UEFA Nations League success in 2023.

Denia expressed his pride in Spain's achievements at Thursday's pre-match press conference. "We are delighted that we are a benchmark in Europe and the world, it is a job that has been done for years," he said. "We have improved and continued to work, believing in a model of play and a profile of players that represent us."

Spain Targets Olympic Gold

Spain's only previous Olympic gold medal came at Barcelona 1992, where a team featuring Pep Guardiola and Luis Enrique triumphed over Poland 3-2. Captain Abel Ruiz, who joined Girona in June, is eager to emulate that legendary squad. "We are motivated, we know that the gold is something very important for the country and for us," Ruiz stated.

The Spanish team has been preparing intensely for this moment. "It is something that could be historic and for which we have fought hard," Ruiz added. "We have been in the training camp for 40 days and it is a lot of effort. We are really looking forward to the final."

Olympic hosts France will face Spain in Friday's gold medal match at the Parc des Princes. Denia is confident his team can bring more pride to their country by winning this crucial game. "If we have been waiting for the gold medal for so many years, it is a challenge and an additional excitement," he remarked.

Spain's journey to Euro 2024 glory included overcoming heavyweights like Croatia, Italy, Germany, France, and England. This impressive run has set high expectations for the upcoming match against France.

Denia highlighted the importance of their consistent efforts over the years. "It is a job that has been done for years," he noted. The team's belief in their playing style and player profiles has been key to their success.

The Spanish squad aims to add another prestigious title to their collection by winning the Olympic gold medal on Friday.
