Spain beat Austria 3-0 to book Round of 16 Place: Mikel Oyarzabal creates History, joins Elite List

Spain secured a dominant 3-0 victory over Austria in their 2026 FIFA World Cup Round of 32 match at SoFi Stadium, Los Angeles, on July 2. The result propelled the reigning Euro 2024 champions into the last 16 of the tournament.

Mikel Oyarzabal opened the scoring in the 36th minute with a close-range finish following an assist from Marc Cucurella. Spain, which controlled much of the play with around 65% possession, looked clinical in front of goal.

Pedro Porro made it 2-0 in the 66th minute, nodding in a header from Álex Baena’s cross. Lamine Yamal was influential throughout, using his pace and skill to stretch the Austrian backline.

Oyarzabal added his second of the afternoon in the 89th minute, again set up by Cucurella, completing a comprehensive win. Austria struggled to create chances and managed zero shots on target.
