Sparta Prague marked their return to the Champions League with a commanding 3-0 victory over Salzburg. This was their first match in Europe's elite club competition in 19 years. The home fans at the Epet Arena were thrilled as Sparta secured their first win in the tournament since 2003, setting an early tone for the league-phase opener.
Just two minutes into the match, Kaan Kairinen capitalised on a loose ball after Salzburg goalkeeper Janis Blaswich made a great save. Kairinen effortlessly slotted home the rebound to give Sparta an early lead. Later, Victor Olantuji doubled their advantage in the 42nd minute by scoring from a tight angle after receiving a long pass from captain Filip Panak.

Olantuji further contributed by assisting Qazim Laci just before the hour mark. Laci finished coolly after Salzburg's defence gave away possession cheaply. This goal effectively sealed the game for Sparta, showcasing their dominance throughout the match.
The victory ended Sparta's 14-game winless streak in the Champions League, which included four draws and ten losses. Their last win in this competition was against Lazio in December 2003. This triumph also marked the first time they have started a Champions League campaign with a win, on their eighth appearance in the competition proper.
This victory is significant for Sparta Prague as it highlights their resurgence on Europe's biggest stage. The team has shown resilience and skill, making a strong statement with this impressive performance against Salzburg.
