Arsenal, who topped Group A to reach the knockout stages, will face an upbeat Portuguese capital side, which defeated FC Midtjylland 4-0 (5-1 on aggregate) in Denmark after the first leg ended 1-1 at tonight's venue.
Thursday night's rivals have a contrasting fortune in their respective domestic leagues with Arsenal sitting atop of the leaderboard while Sporting CP is fourth in Liga Portugal, trailing leaders Benfica by 15 points.
Both sides come to the fixture carrying winning momentum. Arsenal defeated Bournemouth 3-2 after trailing 0-2 at the hour mark at the Emirates while Sporting pipped Portimonense 1-0 away.
Sporting are also in good shape defensively as they haven't conceded in the last three games while winning four matches on the trot. However, their form at home hasn't been the best off late as they won two of the last four matches at Estadio Jose Alvalade.
Arsenal, however, never to the Portugal opponent as they squared off five times in Europe with the Gunners conceding not a single goal in the last four meetings.
