Ange Postecoglou believes Tottenham's defeat to Newcastle United encapsulates their season so far, as his team failed to convert their dominance into a win. Despite having 66% possession and 20 shots compared to Newcastle's nine, Spurs lost 2-1 at St James' Park. Dan Burn's own goal equalised Harvey Barnes' first-half strike, but Alexander Isak's late goal secured victory for the hosts.
Postecoglou expressed frustration over the nature of the defeat, which marked Tottenham's fourth loss in six Premier League away games. He remains optimistic that their fortunes will change with continued dominant performances. "Story of our season so far really," he told BBC Match of the Day. "We played well and controlled the game for the most part. They were a threat in transition, but we still had enough chances to win the game comfortably."

The manager highlighted that Tottenham managed transitions well but conceded a sloppy second-half goal due to a lapse in focus. "The game should have been put to bed a lot longer before that," he added. "What I know is if we continue to play like that, we will get our rewards." He acknowledged that controlling the game at St James' Park was pleasing despite not getting the desired result.
Tottenham player Johnson echoed Postecoglou's sentiments on Sky Sports, expressing disappointment with the outcome. "Really disappointed," Johnson said. "I think in the first half, we were decent and created a few chances. Our general play wasn't too bad." He noted that they started strong in the second half and pushed Newcastle back but failed to capitalise on their opportunities.
Johnson stressed the importance of being more clinical with their chances. "It's about doing what we can with the chances we created," he stated. "We have to be more clinical." He pointed out that decision-making in crucial moments needs improvement, saying, "There were a few opportunities today where we could have shot and not passed, then others when we could have passed and not shot."
Despite three good performances recently, Tottenham has not seen results reflecting their efforts, ending in another defeat.

The team remains hopeful that maintaining this level of play will eventually yield better outcomes as they continue their Premier League campaign.
