Bengaluru, August 12: With Liverpool adamant on retaining Philippe Coutinho, Barcelona have turned their attention on Tottenham Hotspur's attacking midfielder Christain Eriksen to fill the void created by the departure of Brazilian star Neymar on a record transfer fee to Ligue 1 side Paris Saint-Germain.
Eriksen was one of the driving forces towards Spurs' title push last season. The 26-year-old Dane international scored eight goals and assisted in 15.
With Liverpool making it clear that Coutinho is not for sale despite Barcelona's repeated bids, Eriksen looks a long-term prospect, who can even fill in for Andres Iniesta.
Reports in the English press say, Barcelona are close to the deal.
However, the deal would come at a price for the Catalan giants as Eriksen is likely to cost over £100million as Spurs are known to be tough negotiators in the transfer market, especially after having having pocketed £50m for Kyle Walker when he moved to former Premier League champions Manchester City earlier this summer.
That might even incur Spurs chairman Daniel Levy facing the wrath of fed up Tottenham players over wages.
Eriksen reportedly has a contract with spurs till 2020 and in that case Barca will have to spend it big to lure him to the Camp Nou Stadium.
