Stoke City midfielder reveals reason behind Olivier Giroud's failed Everton move

Bengaluru, September 3: Arsenal striker Oliver Giroud wanted to leave Arsenal this summer to join Everton, but his wife interrupted the deal from happening, according to Stoke City midfielder Charlie Adam.
The France striker reportedly started transfer talks with a couple of clubs after failing to pin down a regular place in the starting XI and clubs like Marseille, West Ham and Everton were all believed to be interested in the striker.
The 30-year-old was mostly Koeman's first choice to fill the gap left by Romelu Lukaku's enormous multi million move to Manchester United, and they were sure of landing him once the Gunners had captured Alexandre Lacazette.
Everton had already roped in two strikers Wayne Rooney and Sandro Ramirez to their squad, however, manager Koeman was still desperate to get a proper number 9 this transfer window.
It was understood that, Gunners boss Arsene Wenger was also ready to offer the French forward however Giroud came out publicly talking about his transfer rumours and declined the opportunity to leave, saying he wants to battle for his place.
However, now in a recent interview Stoke City midfielder, Charlie Adam has surprisingly stated that his decision of being at Arsenal was not the striker's preferable choice as it was Giroud's wife who mainly restricted him to move away from London to Merseyside.
Adam said to Radio 5 Live: "I heard his partner [Jennifer] refused the deal.
"The deal was nearly done, he wanted to come, but I heard it was his girlfriend or wife that turned it down."
Giroud's involvement in the Arsenal team has mainly come as a substitute this season. He has featured in all three matches this season but all of them were off the bench. He has registered only one goal this season against Leicester which eventually gave Arsenal the only win of the season so far.
