Nottingham Forest Held To A Goalless Draw Against Sturm Graz In Europa League Match

Nottingham Forest faced Sturm Graz in the Europa League, ending in a 0-0 draw. Morgan Gibbs-White missed a penalty, while both teams struggled to score.

Nottingham Forest were held to a goalless draw against Sturm Graz in the Europa League on Thursday. Morgan Gibbs-White missed a penalty, which was saved by Oliver Christensen. Despite creating better chances, Forest couldn't score. Their previous European match saw them secure their first win under Sean Dyche against Porto at the City Ground.

Ryan Yates had an early chance with a header cleared off the line by Emir Karic in the 16th minute. Later, Maurice Malone scored from a rebound after Otar Kiteishvili's shot was parried, but it was ruled offside following a VAR review. Emanuel Aiwu handled Neco Williams' cross in the 33rd minute, giving Forest a penalty opportunity.

Gibbs-White's penalty lacked power, allowing Christensen to save it easily. Yates believed he was fouled by Niklas Geyrhofer while trying to reach the loose ball but did not receive another penalty. Forest dominated possession in the second half but struggled to threaten Christensen's goal until Nicolas Dominguez's deflected long-range shot hit the post and crossbar in the 90th minute.

The draw leaves Nottingham Forest with five points from four league-stage games, while Sturm Graz is one point behind them. Despite their struggles, English teams remain unbeaten in their last 33 major European matches against Austrian sides since Austria Wien defeated Arsenal in October 1991.

Forest have yet to win an away game this season across all competitions under three different head coaches: Nuno Espirito Santo, Ange Postecoglou, and Sean Dyche. In European competitions, they have only managed one victory in their last nine away games, drawing four and losing four.

Forest's performance highlighted their ongoing challenges away from home. Despite dominating possession and creating opportunities, they failed to convert these into goals. The team will need to address these issues as they continue their European campaign.
