Sunil Chhetri’s Emotional Plea: 'We’re Hurt, Scared!' – Inside the ISL Turmoil Rocking Indian Football

India's football legend Sunil Chhetri has penned a long message on social media, depicting the tensed and unfortunate situation of Indian football.

The current saga between Football Sports Development Limited (FSDL) and the All India Football Federation (AIFF) have put the Indian Super League (ISL) future in limbo, thus jeopardizing the plans and future of the clubs and the players.

The lack of Master Rights Agreement between the two entities have deeply hampered Indian football in recent times, and it continues to be uncertain. Although the Durand Cup is set to start within the next few days, the ISL future is still in doubt, which has concerned all the footballers and the personnel associated with the game.

On a social media post, India legend and Bengaluru FC striker Sunil Chhetri depicted the recent timeline of his vacation and how a proposed delayed pre-season, which bought a smile on his face, has turned to a serious concern.

As news spread, Chhetri has found himself inundated with messages from every corner of Indian football - players, staff, physios, masseurs - all sharing in the same sense of worry and fear about the future. This flood of communication made it starkly clear to him that, as he put it, "my selfish problem isn't as important."

"The current situation that Indian football finds itself in, is very concerning. I've received a flurry of texts from players, staff members, physios, masseurs - not just from my club, but from other clubs as well. Everybody in the Indian football ecosystem is worried, hurt, scared about the uncertainty we are faced with," Chhetri wrote in a message on X.

Although AIFF and FSDL both have confirmed of 'working hard' to find a resolution, the current scenario is not just unfortunate, but extremely unhealthy for Indian football.

Amid this, Chhetri's rallying cry is for unity and perseverance - a reminder that, even as uncertainty clouds the immediate future, solidarity and ongoing preparation are acts of hope. As the nation's footballers wait for the storm to pass, his words underscore the sense of community and enduring belief that, even amid crisis, football will return, and so will the spirit that drives it forward.

"My message to all those involved with Indian football - and more importantly the ones whose livelihood depends on it, the players, staff, kitmen, masseurs, medical teams, production crews, operations staff - please stay calm. We'll ride this storm together. Stick together and look out for each other. Keep training and getting better. Football has to resume soon. It will," his message concluded.
