Sydney Lohmann Expresses Enthusiasm For Playing Football In England After Euro 2025 Victory

Following the Lionesses' Euro 2025 triumph, Sydney Lohmann expresses her excitement about joining Manchester City and contributing to women's football in England.

Sydney Lohmann is thrilled to be playing football in England, especially after the Lionesses' Euro 2025 victory. Sarina Wiegman's team defended their title in Switzerland, defeating Spain on penalties in the final. This win made England the first nation since Germany to retain the women's Euros, a feat Germany achieved six times from 1995 to 2013.

Lohmann joined Manchester City on a three-year contract from Bayern Munich in July. She spent eight seasons in the Frauen-Bundesliga, making 80 appearances and scoring 19 goals with 15 assists. Her move comes as she aims to help City recover from a disappointing season that saw them miss out on European competition.

Lohmann Excited to Play Football in England

The excitement surrounding football in England is palpable, according to Lohmann. "I can't imagine a better time [to play in England] than now," she told BBC Sport. The enthusiasm for both men's and women's football is evident, particularly in Manchester, where the atmosphere is unique.

City's new manager, Andree Jeglertz, will lead the team into the upcoming Women's Super League (WSL) season. Jeglertz took over after Gareth Taylor's departure in March, following nearly five years at the club. He previously managed Denmark at the Euros.

Lohmann noted that despite City's fourth-place finish last season, there was untapped potential within the squad. The team ended up 17 points behind Chelsea, who won the league. Lohmann believes that no one at City was content with last season's results and feels a strong desire to improve.

Her interest in City's playing style played a significant role in her decision to join them. She senses a hunger within the team to perform better and achieve more success this season under Jeglertz's leadership.

As Lohmann embarks on her WSL journey with Manchester City, she hopes to contribute significantly to their resurgence. Her experience and skills gained from her time in Germany are expected to be valuable assets for her new club.
