Syria vs India Highlights, AFC Asian Cup 2023: SYR 1-0 IND at Full Time!

India finish bottom of the group with that result while Uzbekistan have directly qualified for the knockout stages as Turgunboev second-half goal allowed them to salvage a point against Australia in the other game.
This means Syria will wait till the end of the group stages to know if they are going through or not. Hoewever, having four points does make their job easier!
We fold our coverage on that note as India's AFC Asian Cup run comes to an end!

The referee blows the full-time whistle and the Syrians break into a big celebration! India are knocked out of AFC Asian Cup!
90+7' India with a late counter-attack from the right wing as Chhangte runs up the field to send in a cross but the Syrian goalkeeper makes diving clearance! India are back with another ball lobbed into the box but Syrian defense stay firm!
90+6' India with a one-off attack as Akash Mishra puts in a lobbed cross for Sunil Chhetri on the far post but the Syrian goalkeeper makes a dive to collect it!
90+5' All the action continues in Indian half as Syrians win back-to-back corner and are in no hurry to take them!
90+4' Akash Mishra commits an error with his tired legs while clearing the ball, allowing Ala Aldeen to win the ball and counter but Indian defense manages to evade the danger!
90+1' India get seven minutes to get back in the game but it's Syria, who counter attacks from the right for Khrbin to lay-off a dangerous pass in the box for Ala Aldeen, who fails to reach the end of the ball before Subhasish clears it! SYR 1-0 IND
89' Freekick for India and Thapa keeps it on the far post for Rahul Bheke, who heads it off target for another chance wasted!
87' Udanta Singh and Nikhil Poojari combine on the right flank to send in multiple crosses into the box but the Syrian defense is sitting deep to deal with these challenges. For a change, India are exerting themselves in the Syrian defensive third for the first time in the second half, if not in the match!

84' Confirmation of Syria change from earlier. Meanwhile, India are fast running out of ideas to get back in the game while Syrians are more adamant of playing the game in the Indian half!
83' Handball for Sunil Chhetri inside the Syrian box as he tries to set up Sahal Abdul Samad following a long-ball counter-attack! SYR 1-0 IND
80' Khrbin shoots wide from outside the box following another counter-attack! Igor Stimac makes a change in midfield right after as Anirudh Thapa comes on for Apuia!
Meanwhile, Syria are about to make a change as well!
79' All of that hard work by Indian defense is undone following that impressive counter-attack by Syrians from the right wing. India now have 10 minutes and stoppage time to score two goals and put themselves back in the contention for the knockout stages
75' GOAL! Khrbin scores to give Syria lead following a counter attack! Ibrahim Hesar sets him up for the goal while Khrbin beats Rahul Bheke before slotting the ball into the net!
74' Syria win a corner after Sahal is at fault for losing the ball cheaply in the middle of the park. It's very clear that the creative midfielder is yet to find his rhythm as this is his first match since mid December!
72' India continue to defend in numbers well while Syrians are using wide spaces to get into the final third every now and then! However, Indian counter-attacks are not working again as any move made is quickly cut down by their rivals' midfield and what you can call a Syrian stranglehold!

70' Concerning image for India as Gurpreet Singh has picked up an injury as well and is attended by medical staff! He is soon back on the field and is taking a goal kick. Hopefully he will play the rest of the game! SYR 0-0 IND
68' Abdul Ramadan side nets following a counter attack as the winger was played on the left side of the box and is forced to shoot from tight angle with Nikhil Poojari closing in on him!
66' Sahal Abdul Samad with his first touch of the match and it's a shot blocked at the edge of the box as Sunil Chhetri sets him up after winning the ball high up the field! India fail to capitalise another half a chance!

62' Big let off for India after Akash Mishra loses the ball inside the Indian box under pressure from two Syrian forwards. Hesar keeps the loose ball for Khrbin on the far post and the unmarked player heads it wide to the relief of Indian players!
60' The see-saw battle in the centre of the pitch continues with no dangerous penetration in the final third by either of the teams. India can't afford to settle for that as Igor Stimac is already preparing for changes at the touchline!

56' Syrians mount pressure on Indian defense in the final third with aerial balls into the box from every direction a common sight. Indian defense is holding fortress well so far in absence of their tallest and experienced defender Sandesh Jhingan!
53' OH LORD! Chhangte fail to capitalise on an error committed by Syrian goalkeeper and defender Oues in the box, allowing Chhangte to take the ball in zero shooting angle, he looks to square it off to a teammate but the pass was cut off by Oues! India win a corner at least
50' Subhasish with a crucial block on Khrbin volley following a Syrian counter-attack into the Indian box! Hesar sets Khrbin with a header to the goal following a long ball to him from the back! SYR 0-0 IND
49' Apologies for an error. Udanta Singh has replaced Naorem Mahesh Singh in the attack and not Chhangte. Meanwhile, the game has been bogged down in the middle of the park since Sandesh substitutions!

47' That's a big jolt for India. Sandesh is going off and is being replaced by right-back Nikhil Poojary, which means all of the Indian backline consists of no regular centre-backs with Bheke slotting into the centre!
Meanwhile Udanta replaces Chhangte in the line-up while Sabbag came off for Syria with dangerman Khrbin replacing him at the break!
46' The second half begins and is halted immediately as Sandesh Jhingan is down on the ground clutching his knee and has asked for a substitution straightaway!
India have everything on stake as they face Syria in their final Group B match at the Al Bayt Stadium in Al Khor on Tuesday (January 23). The match is a do-or-die encounter as the nations fight for the third place. India are at the bottom of the group with back-to-back losses to Australia (0-2) and Uzbekistan (0-3) and need nothing less than a win to have a shot at qualifying for the knockout stages.
India, who are yet to find the net in the AFC Asian Cup 2023, need to produce a positive result laden with goals as a -5 goal difference may hurt their chances of progressing. That's because only the top four of the six third-placed teams from group stages will make the cut for the round of 16.
Lallianzuala Chhangte and Amrinder Singh were said to have taken knocks during training, which kept them out of India's game against Uzbekistan. However coach Igor Stimac claimed before the match that he has a fit squad for the game with midfielder Sahal Abdul Samad likely to play a role in the match.
Between the first and second matchdays, the Blue Tigers made three substitutions to their starting eleven: Akash Mishra, Anirudh Thapa, and Naorem Mahesh Singh replaced Subhasish Bose, Deepak Tangri, and Chhangte.
Unlike Australia match, where India put on a great first half, but some mental errors in the second half proved to be their downfall, this time it was the first half that proved to be fatal; the Blue Tigers trailed by three at the half after giving up after only four minutes of play.
India has yet to win a game in this competition when they fail to score in the first half, and they have lost every Asian Cup group match in which they were behind at the break. India has only scored once in their two previous Asian Cup group stage victories in the twenty-first century.
For Syria, Cuper stuck with the same starting lineup for Syria from the first to the second matchday, adding just Antonio Yakoub, who replaced Ibrahim Hesar in the closing minutes, as a new player.
In the match, Ammar Ramadan became the first player to earn ten appearances, and Fahd Youssef became the eighth player to reach fifty caps after replacing Mahmoud Al Aswad, who was making just his third appearance for the national side. After replacing Pablo Sabbag in the 65th minute, Omar Khribin is still one goal behind Zyad Chaabo for fifth place all-time.
