Arsenal has announced that Takehiro Tomiyasu will be absent for the remainder of the season following a successful knee surgery. The Japan international has only played six minutes this season, coming on as a late substitute against Southampton in October. This marks the second knee surgery for Tomiyasu during his time with Arsenal, having previously undergone a similar procedure in the 2022-23 season.
Tomiyasu, aged 26, also missed 13 matches last season due to a calf injury. Despite undergoing an initial surgery in August and returning to full training, he continued to experience knee issues. Arsenal stated on their official website that these ongoing problems necessitated another corrective surgery.

After his initial surgery in August, Tomiyasu resumed training and even appeared as a substitute in Arsenal's home Premier League game against Southampton in October. However, persistent knee issues led to further surgical intervention. Arsenal confirmed that Tomiyasu will now embark on a recovery and rehabilitation programme expected to conclude by the end of this year.
The club expressed their support for Tomiyasu during his recovery process. His absence presents challenges for Arsenal's defensive lineup as they navigate the rest of the season without him.
Tomiyasu's journey with injuries has been challenging. Last season's calf injury kept him out of action for several games. Now, with another knee surgery behind him, he faces an extended period away from the pitch.
As Tomiyasu focuses on his rehabilitation, Arsenal will need to adjust their strategies accordingly. The team remains hopeful for his full recovery and eventual return to competitive play.
