Talking points of the Liverpool-Sevilla draw

Liverpool blew away a 3-0 lead against Sevilla to draw the game 3-3 in the group stage of the Champions League on Tuesday night.

Liverpool skipper Jordan Henderson was average against Sevilla and was ineffective both defensively and attacking wise.

Bengaluru, November 22: Liverpool blew away a 3-0 lead against Sevilla to draw the game 3-3 in the group stage of the Champions League on Tuesday night. A win would have secured Liverpool a place in the round of 16 and the Reds started off in the best possible way scoring three goals in the first half.

However, in the second half, they allowed Sevilla to come back into the game and as a result, they will have to settle for just one point and wait for the final game of the group stage to confirm their place in the round of 16.

Here are three talking points of the game:

Liverpool and Sevilla showed how horrible set piece defending can be

Six goals were scored on Tuesday night and five out of them were from set-piece. This is a very poor example of defending and both the managers should be worried especially Jurgen Klopp as his side blew away a 3-0 lead.

The Reds almost did enough to stop Sevilla's exceptional comeback but eventually conceded the third goal in injury time and it was the sloppiest of all the six goals. Both teams need to work a lot on their set piece defending.

Jordan Henderson is a big let-down

Liverpool, despite scoring three goals against Sevilla, had no control on the game. They scored their first two goals from corner and the third on the break. A thing that will be worrying Jurgen Klopp and the fans is how the Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson performed against Sevilla.

The Liverpool skipper was average on Tuesday night and was ineffective both defensively and attacking wise. Gini Wijnaldum was not much better too and Emre Can, after being introduced from the bench, was not impressive as well.

Geis is a gem

After watching Johannes Geis against Liverpool, most Schalke fans will surely regret the decision of their club to loan out a player like him to Sevilla. The German midfielder was sublime for Sevilla in the second half.

Schalke are doing well this season in the Bundesliga but keeping an all-round player like Geis would have been a boon for the Bundesliga giants surely.
