Erik ten Hag stated that Manchester United needed their win over Luton Town, but claimed their 21 points despite missing 16 players this season put them in a "very good position" to finish in the top four.
The manager's attitude was unaffected by his third yellow card of the season, which means he will serve a onematch punishment for the league visit to Everton following the international break.
Victor Lindelöf's 59th-minute goal gave United their fourth win in five Premier League games, putting them three points behind fourth-placed Liverpool, who play on Sunday.

Ten Hag went on to say: "Even after all the setbacks we dealt with, we are still in a position near the top four and when we start to play well and get a team that is set for weeks and months [then maybe] other teams will get their setbacks and drop points."Now that we have won four games out of five in the Premier League, we are in a terrific position, especially given the difficulties we faced. That is cause for optimism.
"We needed the win, and we got it, but we could have made things easier for ourselves by scoring early and getting a second." "I am pleased with [the winner] and the clean sheet."
Ten Hag, who lost Aaron Wan-Bissaka due to sickness on the day, is also concerned about Christian Eriksen and Rasmus Hjlund, who were both forced off. The Dutchman added of Hjlund, "We'll do an assessment but will have to wait 24 hours to see if there is a problem." Ten Hag also provided an update on Eriksen. "He slipped, but the result is the same. We must first make a diagnostic and then reach a conclusion."
The manager explained why he was assigned a booking. "So that was about a throw [to us] but it was the second time it was so clear and obviously our ball - it was my remark so I get booked."
Ten Hag is unconcerned about not being on the Goodison Park bench. "My coaching staff is very competent," he told reporters.
"We're in the fight [in the league] I thought we'd be," Luton manager Rob Edwards said. I see a lot of excellent things; now we have to turn these into points."
