Terry confident Valencia win will reignite Chelsea season

MADRID, Oct 4 (Reuters) Chelsea captain John Terry believes his side's 2-1 comeback victory at Valencia in the Champions League will reignite a campaign that looked to be going off the rails following the departure of Jose Mourinho.

''We've been a bit low recently with the change but we had to deal with that as a group of players. We've dealt with that okay and hopefully this is going to give everyone a lift at Chelsea,'' Terry told reporters after his side's victory at the Mestalla.

''The fans have been fantastic, they've travelled here and it was good for us that we put out a great performance for them tonight.'' Chelsea went in to the Valencia game having failed to score in their previous four outings in the Premier League under new coach Avram Grant and they got off to a poor start when David Villa put the home side ahead in the ninth minute.

But a Joe Cole goal against the run of play settled their nerves and put them back in contention before the break.

They gave a more assured performance in the second half and Didier Drogba earned his side the win with a classy strike 19 minutes from time.

The win left Chelsea top of Group B with four points from two games, one ahead of Valencia and Schalke 04.

Asked if he had doubted Chelsea's ability to bounce back following the departure of Mourinho, Terry replied: ''I really believed in ourselves and that we could do it, it was just a case of when was it going to happen.

''Of course it's been difficult the fans want to see us winning games and playing well as well. It's been difficult for us all.

''Mourinho was a great friend and a great manager. He moves on, we have to do that us a team as soon as possible if not we are going to find ourselves dwelling on it and we are going to be the ones to suffer.

''We need to pick ourselves up and this is the perfect opportunity to do that.'' REUTERS BJR HS1626
