World No. 113 Thailand made it to the King's Cup 2023 final after defeating World No. 100 Lebanon 2-1 in the semifinal on Thursday with Teerasil Dangda scoring the later winner with Nicholas Mickelson providing the decisive assist.

Iraq, on the other hand, are the King's Cup favourite as they have entered the tournament as highest ranking team. The World No. 70 controversially defeated India in a penalty shootout after the match ended 2-2 at the end of 90 minutes.
Aymen Hussein and Ali Al-Hamadi scored from the penalty spot to equalise twice for Iraq with the latter's penalty call by the referee was deemed dubious by fans and head coach Igor Stimac alike. Stimac went as far as to say that they were "robbed" by the match officials.
Iraq, who handed a debut to four players during the semis against India, will be without their exciting talent Zidane Iqbal. The creative midfielder was shown a direct red card for elbowing Brandon Fernandes during the second half.
