
The Best FIFA Football Awards 2022 ceremony was held on Monday (February 27) at the Theatre du Chatelet in Paris, France, hosted by Jermaine Jenas and Samantha Johnson as superstars from across the globe were crowned for a range of illustrious categories.
The ceremony opened with the honouring of greats of the game that passed during the last year as FIFA and former Brazil striker Ronaldo paid tribute to the legendary Pele. The football great's wife received a special award to recognise Pele's legendary career.
Players who impressed during the relevant qualifying periods were whittled down to three outstanding candidates across seven categories, while selections were made for the FIFA FIFPRO Men's and Women's World 11s.
Plus, the FIFA Fan Award and the winner of the FIFA Fair Play Award was also announced during the ceremony in Paris.
FIFA World Cup 2022 golden ball winner and World champion Lionel Messi of Argentina and PSG was voted the Best FIFA Men's Player 2022. Messi beat Real Madrid's Ballon d'Or winner Karim Benzema and Qatar 2022 golden boot winner Kylian Mbappe to the award.
Spain and Barcelona's Alexia Putellas won her second successive Best FIFA Women's Player award by beating off USA's Alex Morgan and England's Beth Mead for the 2022 award.
England and Manchester United shot-stopper Mary Earps beat Christiane Endler and Ann Katrin Berger to the Best FIFA Women's Goalkeeper 2022 award.
FIFA World Cup 2022 golden glove winner and world champion Emiliano Martinez of Argentina beat off competition from Morocco's Yassine Bounou and Belgium's Thibaut Courtois for the Best FIFA Men's Goalkeeper 2022 award.
Warta Poznan's Marcin Oleksy was voted for FIFA Puskas Award 2022 for his goal against Stal Rzeszow in the 2022 PZU Amp Futbol Ekstraklasa. Richarlison and Dimitri Payet were the other two finalists.
Sarina Wiegman landed her third Best FIFA Women's Coach award by beating off competition from Lyon's Sonia Bompastor and Brazil women's team coach Pia Sundhage.
The 2022 World Cup-winning coach Lionel Scaloni of Argentina beat Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti and Manchester City head coach Pep Guardiola to the Best FIFA Men's Coach 2022 award.
Argentina national team fans received the award for the Best FIFA Fan for their support in the country's run to lift the FIFA World Cup title in Qatar.
