The Courage of Spirit: Celebrating East Bengal's Glorious Legacy - Schedule, What to Expect

East Bengal Club, in collaboration with the AMI Arts Festival and Kolkata Centre for Creativity (KCC), has unveiled a remarkable exhibition titled "The Courage of Spirit." This unique showcase celebrates the triumphs and illustrious 105-year history of East Bengal Club, paying tribute to its profound connection with Bengal's cultural and emotional heritage.

The exhibition was inaugurated on December 13 by a distinguished panel, including Mr. Vibhash Vardhan Agarwal, Director of Emami Group, East Bengal FC Head Coach Oscar Bruzon, current East Bengal players, as well as club legends Bhaskar Ganguly and Manoranjan Bhattacharya. Directors of Emami East Bengal FC, Mr. Debabrata Sarkar and Mr. Saikat Ganguly, also graced the occasion.

Speaking at the inauguration, KCC Chairperson Ms. Richa Agarwal expressed the significance of the event.

"The Courage of Spirit is not just an exhibition; it is a testament to East Bengal's enduring legacy and its profound connection with the cultural and emotional fabric of Bengal. Through these cherished artifacts and untold stories, we celebrate a 105-year journey filled with triumphs, resilience, and an unyielding passion for the sport. We are honored to collaborate with East Bengal Club to bring this unique exhibition to view, inspiring generations to come."

East Bengal's Head Coach Oscar Bruzon echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing the importance of honoring the club's heritage.

"Courage and spirit are two words that define East Bengal. This exhibition is a wonderful initiative to educate our future generations about the club's epic journey, and I would like to thank KCC and East Bengal Club for putting everything together. To walk through the footsteps of club legends is a reminder of what we are striving to achieve together. I'm proud to be part of this heritage."

Event Details

The exhibition is being held from December 13 to December 22 at the Kolkata Centre for Creativity (KCC). Open daily from 11 AM to 5 PM, the exhibition is free for all visitors, making it an accessible experience for football and sports enthusiasts across generations.

What to Expect at the Exhibition

The event features an impressive collection of historic memorabilia and archival documents from the East Bengal Club museum, paying tribute to some of the club's most iconic moments:

1925: The jersey worn by ex-East Bengal captain Surya Chakraborty and winners' medals from a match against the Europeans.
1942: A personal trophy of ex-captain Nagen Ray commemorating East Bengal's first Calcutta Football League (CFL) title and the club's first domestic double.
1948: A winner's medal from East Bengal's iconic 2-0 victory over the Chinese Olympic XI.
1950s: Indian team blazers, hats, and scarves worn by former East Bengal players.
1975: The boots worn by captain Ashokelal Banerjee during the club's historic 5-0 win over Mohun Bagan in the IFA Shield final.
2002: A jersey commemorating East Bengal's perfect year, where they won all five tournaments they participated in.
2011: A football signed by the Argentine senior men's team.

Cricket enthusiasts will also find significant items on display, such as a cricket ball signed by legends Kapil Dev and Sunil Gavaskar. The wicket-keeping gloves used by Bengal captain Sambaran Banerjee during the state's 1989-90 Ranji Trophy triumph. An East Bengal jersey signed by the Indian cricket team in 2019.

"The Courage of Spirit" is not just an exhibition; it is a celebration of resilience, passion, and a sporting legacy that transcends generations. With cherished artifacts and untold stories, the event provides a rare opportunity to walk through the history of one of India's most iconic clubs, reminding us of the courage and spirit that define East Bengal.
