Bengaluru, Sept. 14: Despite defeat against Manchester United in gameweek six, Arsenal sit at the top of the league, their finest start to a Premier League season in a very long time.
The North London giants have also managed to win their opening game against FC Zurich in the Europa league. Comparing it with the start of the last season, where they recorded three straight defeats at the start, there can be few complaints.
With five wins from six league games and a win in the opening Europa League game, Arsenal have definitely looked to have improved on last season. Considering the current form they are well placed to challenge for the top four as well as the domestic cup tournaments as the campaign progresses.
Here are three major factors which could be the result behind their early success to start the 2022/23 season.
1. Fine Transfer Window
Arsenal have almost filled up the gap in the squad with a positive transfer window this summer. With the addition of Gabriel Jesus on the side, they have successfully solved the problem they were facing in the attacking role. Jesus has notched six goal contributions in six league games and has been a lively presence at the top.
Another signing Zinchenko has also been pivotal to the team and has already looked to be providing security and maturity to Arsenal’s possession play. The signing of Fabio Vieira and keeper Matt Turner also has improved the squad strength.
2. Better Gameplay
The Gunners struggled for consistency last season with Mikel Arteta often struggling to maintain balance on the side. However, now with preferred players at his disposal, Arsenal's gameplay seem to have improved leaps and bounds. Although they are far from perfect, the Gunners’ effectiveness in winning back possession and fluid movement of Martinelli, Jesus, and Saka, in the final third has delivered a positive display.
3. Easy fixtures
Arsenal have definitely improved on all front but a relatively easy fixture list has also helped the club get good results. Out of the seven games so far, Arsenal have faced a top-six opponent just once and eventually lost the game. There is no easy game in Premier League however a relatively easy kind of schedule may have played a role in their bright start.
