Three potential replacements for Xavi Hernandez at Barcelona

Barcelona have not enjoyed a good season this time out following a strong last season under the stewardship of Xavi Hernandez.

The former Barca player turned manager did deliver last season as he led the Catalan giants to the La Liga title last time out despite the club’s struggles financially. However, the Blaugrana have a major decision to make with Xavi having already announced his exit from the club in the summer. The Barcelona manager insisted that he is not being able to deliver at Camp Nou and is therefore moving out.

Xavi

The Barcelona job is not an easy one right now given the club’s persistent financial problems. However, needless to say, managing a club of Barca’s stature is also quite appealing for any manager. Here, we will take a look at three managers Barcelona could consider to replace their departing boss

Roberto De Zerbi

Despite Brighton’s inconsistency on the pitch this season, Roberto De Zerbi remains one of the most coveted young managers in the world. The Italian has been thoroughly impressive with his tactical ideas and his Brighton side plays beautiful eye-catching football. The Italian has also done a fantastic job with limited resources and a pretty average squad at his disposal. Barcelona could consider a move for the former Shakhtar Donetsk manager as they look to replace Xavi Hernandez but they might struggle financially to match Brighton’s demands for the manager.

Ruben Amorim

Ruben Amorim has done a fantastic job at Sporting CP so far since taking charge at the Portuguese giants in 2020 after impressing as Braga manager. The 39-year-old former Portugal international has caught the eye with his incredibly unique tactical setup. Under Amorim, Sporting CP play beautiful football and we have also seen several top young players making progress under the tutelage of the former Benfica midfielder. Amorim’s attacking style of play looks tailor-made for Barcelona and he could be fine replacement for Xavi.

Thiago Motta

Another former midfielder who is making waves after stepping into management, Thiago Motta has made headlines with his innovative attacking tactics. A former Barcelona player, Motta knows the Barcelona fanbase quite well. Motta has been brilliant since being appointed the Bologna manager and could further elevate his ideas to the next level at a club like Barca who have a brilliant core of players who are mostly young.
