Three Premier League clubs in race for Jorginho

The 26-year-old Jorginho still has nearly three years left on his deal, which runs out in the summer of 2020, but a number of Premier League clubs have sent scouts to watch the ex-Hellas Verona ace.

Bengaluru, March 6: Premier League trio of Arsenal, Manchester United and Manchester City are all set to fight it out for Napoli star Jorginho this summer.

The Italian midfielder has been in sensational form this season as Maurizio Sarri's side battle for the Serie A title.

The 26-year-old still has nearly three years left on his deal, which runs out in the summer of 2020. But a number of Premier League clubs have sent scouts to watch the ex-Hellas Verona ace, who would cost around £60m.

Joao Santos, his agent told SunSport: “It’s normal for top European clubs to keep players of this type on their radars.

“We’re waiting for May. We hope Napoli can win the league. Then if Napoli wants to renew the contract, we can talk about it.

“The same if they want to sell Jorginho. There are no official and concrete proposals for him from UK.

“I don’t know if De Laurentiis will call me at the end of the season to extend his contract. I suppose that [he will].

“We are available to deal with [the club]. He has become Neapolitan and is in a family. He is a top level player.”

Santos also believes Liverpool target Jorginho has the ability to become a star in the Premier League.

He added: “I follow the Premier League. I’m sure Jorginho has the characteristics to play there.

“He runs more than 13km every game and he has a great technique. I don’t have a figure in my mind, the price is set by the president.”

Napoli's hopes of winning their first title since 1990 took a dent over the weekend as they were beaten 4-2 at home by an Edin Dzeko-inspired Roma.

And their misery was further confounded as Juventus won 1-0 at Lazio thanks to a last-minute Paulo Dybala winner as they leapfrogged their rivals to top spot.
