Stefan Ortega is optimistic about Manchester City's potential to recover from their current slump. The Premier League champions have been struggling, with a recent 2-1 loss to Aston Villa marking just one win in their last 12 matches across all competitions. This poor form has seen them fall to seventh in the league and 22nd in the Champions League standings, jeopardizing their chances of advancing to the play-offs.
Ortega attributes the team's difficulties to injuries affecting key players, which have disrupted their rhythm. Manager Pep Guardiola has had to frequently alter the lineup, impacting team cohesion. Ortega explained on the club's website: "We are all humans. I think it is just normal there is a point where you struggle a little bit and with all the injured players we have. You don't get the good rhythm of all the players playing with each other."

The goalkeeper remains confident that Manchester City will soon regain their winning form due to the squad's depth of talent. Since Guardiola's first Premier League title in 2018, City has established itself as a dominant force in English football. Ortega expressed his belief that this quality will lead to a turnaround: "When you come here, you see all the quality on the pitch, the manager we have, staff, you know there will be a turnaround soon," he said.
This season, City has already suffered nine defeats across all competitions. Only during the 2019-20 and 2016-17 seasons did Guardiola experience more losses as City's manager, with 12 and 10 defeats respectively. These statistics highlight the unusual nature of City's current struggles under his leadership.
Despite these challenges, Ortega remains hopeful about City's prospects for improvement. He emphasized that they have previously demonstrated their ability to win multiple games consecutively: "There's too much quality here and I think quite soon we will win games again. We have showed we are able to win a few games in a row as well," he stated.
Manchester City aims to bounce back when they face Everton on Boxing Day. The team hopes this match will mark the beginning of a positive change in their fortunes as they strive to overcome their current difficulties and reclaim their position among football's elite.
