From Paco Alcacer to Andre Silva: Top 5 loan signings in Europe this season

Bengaluru, Nov 16: The Summer window saw multiple Premier league clubs to Italian clubs breaking record transfer fee to land their desired players. Chelsea and Liverpool broke their kitty to land goalkeeper Kepa and Alisson while Juventus couped Cristiano Ronaldo from Real Madrid.

However, despite such deals, some of the top clubs like AC Milan, Borussia Dortmund etc choose to spend money more reasonably, getting players on loan who till now has been a hit.

We look at five players among Europe's top leagues who, till now, are on fire for their respective sides:

5. Andre Silva

Club: Sevilla

On loan from: AC Milan

The Portuguese forward last season signed for the Italian giants from FC Porto with lots of hype, however, failed to grab the limelight. The 22-year-old although scored eight goals in 14 appearances in Europa league but only managed two goals in 24 outings in Serie A.

Disappointing with his display, the Milan management this Summer instead secured the Higuain as a first choice forward while the Portuguese was allowed to the leave the club.

He joined Sevilla on loan with the La Liga club having the option to sign him permanently for €35 million and since his arrival at Spain, the Portuguese youngster has been in sensational form scoring seven, assisting one in 15 appearances.

His goals in the penalty area this season is the highest of any player to feature in more than five games for Sevilla.

4. Achraf Hakimi

Club: Borussia Dortmund

On loan from: Real Madrid

The Moroccan ace got his Los Blancos debut only last season under Zidane and caught the attraction soon with his versatile and attacking display from full-back position.

He made 17 appearances last season for Madrid, winning the Champions league however following the signing of Alvaro Odriozola in the summer, Hakimi was loaned out to Borussia Dortmund for a two-year period.

The Moroccan defender initially found himself on the bench at Dortmund with the more experienced Łukasz Piszczek and Marcel Schmelzer being favoured by manager Lucian Favre however since his start against Nuernberg, the 20-year-old did not have to look back.

Playing 10 times this term, he already has registered six assists scoring one and currently is one of the first names in the team sheet to appear.

The right-back, however, has lately been more preferred at left-back role but still, his shining run has not stopped yet.

3. Gonzalo Higuain

The Argentine forward arguably was Juventus' most lethal weapon in the last three years where he guided the side to three consecutive leagues. But following the arrival of Ronaldo, the 30-year-old had to make room for the Portuguese.

The One-time Serie A top scorer, however, decided to stay at Italy despite numerous offers from Spain and Premier League and it now seems his decision was well calculated.

Higuain signed for AC Milan on loan for a fee of €18 million with the seven-time European Champions also having the option to sign him permanently next summer for €36 million and since then the forward has made an instant impact.

He already has seven goals to his name after just 12 appearances for the Rossoneri, two more than Ronaldo and his precisely his impressive performance is one of the reasons behind Milan still fighting for a top-four spot.

2. Mateo Kovacic

Club: Chelsea

On loan from: Real Madrid

Chelsea already had a fair share of midfielders in the rank before Sarri's arrival with players like Drinkwater, Bakayoko, Fabregas, and Kante already in the mix.

However, soon after the former Napoli manager's arrival, he sent Bakayoko on loan while putting Drinkwater out of the squad which made room for two positions.

He signed Jorginho from Napoli permanently but can only acquire the services of Croatian Kovacic as part of the deal which saw Thibaut Courtois move to Real Madrid permanently.

At Madrid, the 24-year-old only spent three years as a backup player to Kroos and Modric but since his arrival at Stamford Bridge, the seemed to have found a new lease of life.

The Croatian international has already started in 10 of his 13 appearances in the league so far this season, assisting one but his passing success, as well as the willingness to track back, has immensely helped the likes of Jorginho and N'Golo Kante to keep the midfield machine rolling, who are still unbeaten in the league.

Given his performances so far, Sarri and Chelsea should do everything in their power to sign him permanently next term.

1. Paco Alcacer

Club: Borussia Dortmund

On loan from: Barcelona

After failing to grab a permanent spot in Barcelona squad, Alcacer this Summer was allowed to join Dortmund on a season-long loan deal with an option to buy for €30 million at the end of the season.

Certainly, in just three months, he became the most efficient signing of the Summer, having the best conversation rate in Europe's top five leagues.

His super-sub appearances in the Dortmund colours have seen scoring eight goals already in six appearances, playing just 235 minutes in the league while he also has one in the Champions League, coming from bench twice.

His goal scoring spree has seen the German side topping the chart in Bundesliga while they also sit at the top in Champions League group as well.
