Top Euro scorer Messi awarded Golden Boot

Barcelona, Oct 1: Ace Argentine forward Lionel Messi was on Thursday, Sep 30 awarded the Golden Boot for pocketing 34 league goals and subsequently becoming the top scorer in European domestic leagues last season.

The brilliant forward helped Barcelona retain its Spanish La Liga title with his award winning goals.

By claiming the award, Messi also joined the elite club of players such as Marco van Basten, Ronaldo and Cristiano Ronaldo, who are the only players to win the three major individual awards - the Golden Boot, FIFA Player of the Year and the Golden Ball.

With 29 goals each, Chelsea's Didier Drogba and Udinese's Antonio di Natale were tied for second spot.
