Top five transfer in this season's Serie A

New Delhi, Sep 3: The transfer deadline day has finally left behind us and many clubs have already smashed summer transfer window spending to strengthen their squad. It was mainly the English Premier League which caught the most eye with spending as the top 20 teams jointly again spent a record £1.43bn - a rise of 23% on the previous year.

Italian league was also not far behind as they have also managed to spend around £800 million mark surpassing last years £760 million spending.

In these, most of the money was spent by newly cash-riched AC Milan who splurged over £210million (€230m) in the transfer window and their rival Juventus were the next in the line with £140million.

Here's a look at the top five signings of Serie A during the summer of 2017:

1. Leonardo Bonuuci to AC Milan

One of the best defenders in the world and the backbone of Juventus defence Leonardo Bonucci made a shock move to league rival AC Milan for a transfer fee of €42 million. The Italian defender was linked with a move to the Premier League last summer, with Chelsea and Manchester City linked, however, he opted to remain in Juventus.

But the relationship between him and Juventus manager Allegri went sour over the months and later the player himself pushed for the move to join the rivals.

Bonucci joined Juventus in 2010 and has won six Serie A titles with Juventus in the past six seasons and also guided them to two Champions League finals in that period to establish himself as one of the best in the business.

2. Lorenzo Pellegrini to Roma

Roma completed a bargain deal of €10 million to bring highly talented midfielder Lorenzo Pellegrini to the Stadio Olimpico from Sassuolo with a five-year contract. The 21-year-old was one of the standout midfielders of Serie A last season and scored six and assisted further six to feature in Serie A to gain a call up for his country.

3. Borja Valero to Inter Milan

Luciano Spaletti's first signing after taking charge at Inter was the capture of highly experienced midfielder Borja Valero from Fiorentina on a three-year contract for the just €5.5m fee plus another €1.5m in performance-related.

The midfielder was the most instrumental player in Fiorentina's success for over the last couple of years where he was the captain of the team and appeared over 150 times for the club since he joined in 2012 from Villarreal, scoring 14 goals.

4. Blaise Matuidi to Juventus

This is probably the biggest deal of the season. The PSG midfielder only went to Turin for just €18.2m agreeing on a three-year deal with the Turin club. The midfielder is one of the biggest stars of World football and also a regular in a star studded French National team.

He helped PSG to four Ligue 1 titles since joining the club from Saint-Etienne but opted to leave the club after manager Emery Unary failed to give him proper game time in Paris.

5. Benedikt Howedes to Juventus

Another shrewd piece of business by Juventus chief Giuseppe Marotta who convinced the World Cup winner to join the Bianocerris on loan for this season.

He was from Schalke on a season-long loan with a view to a permanent deal, in which the Serie A champions will pay €3.5 million to keep the 29-year-old until June 2018 and later can make the move permanent for €13m with a further €3m euros of add-ons.

The defender was at Schalke since 2001 but a fallout with new coach Domenico Tedesco made him leave the club. Howedes is a versatile defender who can play on either side of the full-back as well as in the centre.
